See an Off-Off-Broaday Show: Line at 13th Street Repertory

I usually write about Broadway shows and sometimes about Off-Broadway shows, but last night I ventured into the territory of Off-Off-Broadway shows. For me, this has historically been more of a “miss” than a “hit,” but I’ve finally found a show that I can recommend for those intrepid enough to lose the Broadwayist attitude and try something different. However, can you really call a show that has been running for 38 years different? The show is Line, written by Israel Horovitz with artistic director and theater founder 94-year-old Edith O'Hara (amazing). It’s about five random people who ostensibly come together to wait on line for something. We’re never quite sure what they’re waiting for, but it doesn’t really matter. This is an existentialist show about social mores and behaviors. The ensemble is excellent, and the one-hour quirky piece will leave you thinking. And, isn’t that what theater is supposed to do? Playing at the 13th Street Repertory Theater, 50 W. 13th Street, New York, Friday and Saturday nights at 9:30pm. http://www.theatermania.com/.

  2. The new cast has brought new vitality to the show. It's one hour that will make you look at your neighbor differently. Well worth the $20 ticket.
